Gluten-Free Label Now Actually Means Gluten Free.

Starting Tuesday, the label "gluten free" will actually mean "gluten free." Before Aug. 5, there were no standards or regulations governing the use of gluten-free claims placed on packaged foods. As of Tuesday, however, the Food and Drug Administration determined that the claim can only be used for foods containing less than 20 parts per million of gluten.

This is important for a person with celiac disease but not for a person with “gluten sensitivity”. They would be better served by a label stating, “low in FODMAPs, the fermentable carbohydrates that are the underlying cause of their sensitivity to gluten-containing products.
