Acquired brain injury ‘a silent epidemic,’ says charity

More awareness is needed of the "silent epidemic" of acquired brain injuries, according to a Belfast-based charity. Brain Injury Matters said more than 2,000 people in Northern Ireland were affected every year. Chief executive Fiona McCabe said there were often no obvious signs, which caused extra distress and frustration.

Not only is brain trauma a worldwide epidemic, but the recovery time seems to be much longer than typically expected. Results from the U.S. indicate that even non-concussion brain trauma takes at least six months to completely heal. Fortunately, that process can be sped up with high-dose fish oil.
