It’s the level of blood glucose that determines the extent of the glycosylation of proteins.  The more glycosylated proteins you have in the blood, the faster you age. This is because glycosylated protein can stimulate inflammatory responses.  Whole-wheat bread raises blood glucose levels faster than table sugar so it is not simply sugar that is the problem, but overconsumption of carbohydrates in the general.  The best way to prevent overconsumption of carbohydrates is to make sure that they all come from non-starchy vegetables.  These types of carbohydrates are very difficult to over-consume.
