DO CALORIES STILL COUNT?

Take in only the number of calories that you expend and you fuel your workouts and maintain your weight . Eat more than you burn and that's where the trouble arises (unless you're looking to bulk up ). That's what nutrition experts have been telling us for years.

Calories do count, but they have to be hormonally balance to prevent hunger or fatigue.  That is the central core of the Zone Diet.  When you achieve that balance at every meal, you reduce inflammation as one of the primary sources of it is the conversion of calories into energy for immediate use of long-term storage.
