Dr. Sears Comments:

Dr. Barry Sears
The molecular reason for craving comfort foods is insulin resistance in the hypothalamus. Normally insulin signals the brain that there is adequate blood sugar to support mental activity. However insulin resistance attenuates the insulin signal in the hypothalamus. The trained response is that comfort foods can  quickly increase blood glucose levels and thus cause an new surge of insulin secretion that eventually can help overcome the insulin resistance in the brain. The best solution is reduce insulin resistance in the brain using a combination of the  Zone Diet, high-dose fish oil, and maqui extracts.
