Diabetes rates skyrocket in kids and teens.

CLOSE The prevalence of diabetes in children shot up dramatically between 2000 and 2009, a new study shows. The amount of type 1 diabetes , an autoimmune disease, climbed 21% from 2000 to 2009, to 1.93 per 1,000 children.

And that is only up to 2009. It’s probably worse now, which doesn’t bode well for future health care since once you have diabetes, you are 2-4 times more likely to develop heart disease and Alzheimer’s.
