Because it seems you may as well drink full fat. A shocking new study has found that drinking diet soda is as bad for your health as the full sugar versions, as it tricks the body into not being able to deal with actual sugar, leading to an equal risk of obesity.

Although the American Beverage Association is correct in their statement in this article that an opinion piece to a journal is not a study, a more recent Swedish study (Lofvenborg et al. Euro J Endocrinol 175:605 (2016)) demonstrates that both sugar and artificially sweetened soda increase the risk of developing diabetes by a factor of two. Once you have diabetes, you are 2-4 times more likely to develop heart disease.
