This article outlines dietary myths not to follow for treating diabetes, but here is good tip to follow for better management of diabetes: Follow the dietary program used at the Joslin Diabetes Center.  It is a calorie-restricted diet (1,200 to 1,500 calories per day) containing 40% low glycemic carbohydrates, 30% low-fat protein, and 30%  fat rich in monounsaturated fat.  The more common name is the Zone Diet.
