Fish Oil in Diet Promotes Blood Cell Growth in Mice

A diet rich in fish oil appeared to promote blood cell production partly by altering the hematopoietic niche in bone marrow, a recent study in mice suggested. Researchers demonstrated that a fish oil rich diet, but not high in other fats, promoted extramedullary hematopoiesis in the spleen and increased hematopoietic stem-cell (HSC) self renewal in bone marrow.
