Is Fish Oil Really Snake Oil?

Things got a bit fishy regarding fish oil this past year when new research called into question the long-held benefits of omega-3 fatty acids. After myriad studies had supported consuming these heart-healthy fats by eating fatty fish or supplementing with fish oil, a few studies left many wondering if the benefits were real.

There is no subject that has more “experts” than fish oil.  However, nowhere do you hear about resolvins derived from EPA and DHA.  These are the hormones that bring inflammation back to equilibrium.  Without them inflammation continues just at a lower level of intensity until there is enough organ damage that you call it chronic disease.  The levels of omega-3 fatty acids to successfully generate resolvins are high.  Taking 1-2 grams of fish oil per day is not going to affect the levels of resolvins and therefore have variable effects in treating chronic disease.
