Fatty fish that contain omega-3 fatty acids are also contaminated with toxins such as PCBs that increase heart attack incidence. On the other  hand, refined fish oil products (at least those containing less that 5 ppb of PCBs) doesn’t . However, you still need a therapeutic dose of a refined fish oil to reduce the AA/EPA ratio to between 1.5 and 3 where you will see significant benefits as in the Japanese population.
