It is a national mandate in Norway that all children after the age of 7 days should start taking one teaspoon of cod liver oil. That supplies about 800 mg of EPA and DHA. These Norwegian children seem to have no problems and they have a 26% decrease in likelihood of developing type 1 diabetes.  For comparison, the average American consumes 150 mg of EPA and DHA per day and our longevity is going down.
