18-HEPE is the building block for resolvins. You can make adequate levels of 18-HEPE as long as you keep your EPA levels greater than 4% of the total fatty acids in the blood. However, to reach that level of EPA in the blood, you need to take a lot of fish oil, like 5-7.5 grams of EPA and DHA per day. The average American consumes 0.125 grams per day.
