CD36 is only one of many fatty-acid-sensing proteins in the GI tract and the rest of the body (especially the hypothalamus that controls appetite).  The underlying cause may be increased inflammation that is disrupting the information flow from the fatty acid receptor to the hypothalamus resulting in greater appetite.
