There are many powerful defenders of fat regain after weight  loss, including the reduction of satiety hormones.  The only way to lose fat and keep it off is calorie restriction.  That can only be maintained if you are never hungry or fatigued.  To do that you have to enhance the release of satiety hormones (PYY and GLP-1) in the gut and reduce leptin resistance in the brain.  The Zone Diet was designed to do both.
