Overweight diabetes patients outlive slimmer ones – study

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Patients with type-2 diabetes who are overweight but not obese outlive diabetics of normal weight, scientists reported on Monday, in another example of the "obesity paradox."

I discussed this in my book Toxic Fat, published in 2008.  Many diabetic patients have healthy fat cells that can prevent the massive lipotoxicity that causes the early mortality in diabetics.  This is also seen in animal studies in which obese diabetic animals can be made into super-obese animals with a dramatic reduction of their symptoms of diabetes.
