People With Diabetes More Likely to Die After a Heart Attack

The number of women who experience heart attacks while pregnant, giving birth, or during the two months following birth is on the rise. A study from the New York University School of Medicine found the risk for suffering a heart attack among pregnant and recently pregnant women rose by 25 percent between 2002 and 2014.

Diabetes accelerates the existing inflammatory damage associated with heart disease.  You get a heart attack when a soft vulnerable plaque erupts and starts a cascade of inflammatory events leading to a complete blockage of the blood flow.  If you have diabetes, the likelihood of a more intense inflammatory response leads to a greater likelihood of death.
