Polyphenols for blood sugar management 

A combination of strawberry and cranberry polyphenols may improve insulin sensitivity in overweight and non-diabetic, insulin-resistant adults, according to a new study. "This was a parallel, double-blind, placebo-controlled and randomized clinical trial of 41 overweight and insulin-resistant subjects," Barry Ritz, PhD, VP of scientific and regulatory affairs at Atrium Innovations, a collaborator of the study, told NutraIngredients-USA.

As I explained in my book, The Mediterranean Zone, high-dose polyphenols are gene activators that can increase the production of AMP kinase by the activation of the gene SIRT-1.  This increase in AMP kinase is similar to the most widely used drug (metformin) currently used to treat diabetes.  AMP kinase is the master regulator of metabolism including blood sugar metabolism.
