Promising Protein Pushed Back Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is a complex condition. But breakthrough findings in the biochemistry behind diabetes may help in the future. Researchers from Uppsala University found that a protein called interleukin-35 (IL-35) may be integral to understanding diabetes. At this time, the research has been conducted only in mice.

IL-35 appears to be an anti-inflammatory cytokine.  It makes more sense to reduce the levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokines with a combination of an anti-inflammatory diet and high-dose fish oil as opposed to injecting more IL-35.
