Researchers explore cocoa as novel dietary source for prevention of cognitive deterioration in Alzheimer’s Disease

September 15, 2015 , IOS Press The potential benefits of dietary cocoa extract and/or its final product in the form of chocolate have been extensively investigated in regard to several aspects of human health. Cocoa extracts contain polyphenols, which are micronutrients that have many health benefits, including reducing age-related cognitive dysfunction and promoting healthy brain aging, among others.

The only problem with cocoa polyphenols is that they are rich in cadmium and lead.  However cocoa polyphenol extracts can overcome both problems.  We have developed such a cocoa polyphenol extract that has GRAS status, meaning it can be incorporated into food products as you have to deliver about 2 grams of cocoa polyphenols to get the cognitive benefits.
