RSNA: Pituitary May Link Brain Injury and PTSD

CHICAGO -- Metabolic activity in the pituitary gland may help doctors differentiate between patients who are exhibiting signs of mild traumatic brain injury alone and those who are also suffering from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), researchers suggested here.

There is a strong indication that PTSD has a strong inflammatory component.  Neuroinflammation disrupts all hormonal signaling, especially in the pituitary gland.
