Soybeans seen as a new source of Omega-3, sparing fish SPECIAL

Virginia Ursin of Monsanto's Biotechnology Prospecting Team believes that her company can offer a solution: soybeans. Addressing a recent gathering of industry representatives and academics at the recently concluded SEED (Synthetic Biology, Engineering, Evolution and Design) conference in Boston, she described how researchers succeeded in manipulating the genetic composition of the soybean to produce a substitute for omega-3 oil.

This same genetically modified soybean oil is also very rich in gamma linolenic acid (GLA).  At high levels of GLA it can accelerate inflammation.  I have written about this for 20 years and have told Monsanto the same thing that they are facing potentially big lawsuits if they introduce this genetically modified soybean oil.  When this modified soybean oil is finally introduced on a large scale, I am sure I will be the primary expert witness for plaintiffs as I was in the Fen-Phen lawsuit many years ago.
