High levels of dietary protein might have the same effect, according to their study, published June 9 in the journal Gut.

It’s not surprising that athletes who eat more protein, fruits, and vegetables have greater microbe diversity than non-athletes. It’d nice to compare athletes and non-athletes who have similar diets to determine the impact of intense exercise on gut microbe populations.
