This description of obesity is actually very simplistic.  Much of the process takes place in the hypothalamus that integrates a wide variety of incoming hormonal signals from the gut and the blood to make the decision to eat or not to eat.  The primary cause of disruption of normal signaling patterns is increased inflammation that reduces satiety.  Saturated fats, such as palmitic acid, are very effective in causing neuroinflammation in the hypothalamus, whereas monounsaturated and omega-3 fats are very effective in reducing neuroinflammation and increasing satiety.
