Two meals a day ‘effective’ to treat type 2 diabetes. n

Only eating breakfast and lunch may be more effective at managing type 2 diabetes than eating smaller, more regular meals, scientists say. Researchers in Prague fed two groups of 27 people the same calorie diet spread over two or six meals a day.

It still comes down to calorie restriction, satiety, and decreasing insulin resistance. You will do a much more effective job in doing that by following the Joslin Diabetes Center guidelines, which are really those of the Zone Diet. Essentially lower the glycemic load of the diet by eating lots of non-starchy vegetables, balance with adequate amounts of low-fat fat and use only monounsaturated fat. The difference between the Zone Diet and the Joslin Diabetes Center guidelines is that I also recommend supplemental omega-3 fatty acids and polyphenols to reduce inflammation. I will give them some time to catch up. n
