Vegan diet is best at reducing heart disease risk in children

A new study compares the effects of a vegan diet vs. the American Heart Association diet on obese children with high cholesterol. Plant-based, low-fat wins the day. Obesity levels are very high among American youth. Over the past thirty years, the rate of obesity has doubled in children aged 6-11 and tripled in those aged 12-19.

The word diet comes from the Greek root meaning way of life.  It would be nice to see a study for more than four weeks before making statements that a vegan diet should be a way of life.  It definitely can be if it is protein-adequate and balanced.  That’s why I wrote an entire book (The Soy Zone) on the subject more than 15 years ago.
