Fish Oil and SeaHealth and epigenetic code

Last Updated Oct 2007

Q: Is it possible to link fish oil, SeaHealth and Zone Diet to improvements and changes in one's epigenetic code?

A: Epigenetic refers to factors that can alter the expression of proteins found in the underlying genetic code in your DNA. Methylation of DNA is one form of epigenetic control of gene expression. EPA and DHA also provide another type of control by affecting the degree of kinking in the messenger RNA so that protein translation is more efficient. SeaHealth Plus would have little direct effect on this type of secondary control of gene expression.
