Zone Diet and the liver

Last Updated Feb 2008

Q: I would like to start the Zone Diet, but I was diagnosed with hepatitis C. I have been in remission since 1998. My doctor said I was cured. I took the Interferon medicine for a while, and now I don't take any medicine at all. My problem is I would like to lose about 25 pounds. I have no energy at all, and my metabolism is slow.  I get tired easily.  I would like to start with your Zone diet, but I would like to know if will be safe for my liver.  I weight 150 pounds, and I am 5'4”. I used to be an active athletic person. Please help me and guide me through a good diet and healthy plan.

A: The Zone Diet is ideally suited for your situation as it will lower the elevated levels of insulin that make you fat and keep you fat and will reduce fatty deposits in the liver. Go to zoneliving.com for all the tools and information you will need to get started.
