Q: Dr. Sears,
My local lipid clinic was not sure what an SIP or AA/EPA test is. They said their tests cover the following:
-NMR Profile
-Lp(a)
-T4 free
-Homocysteine
-CRP-HS
-Liver enzymes/glucose/creatinine
They believe that these tests will give me the info I'm seeking on inflammation and at considerable cost. Do you think this test will give me the info you recommend? If not, I have found a Web site, YourFutureHealth.com, that will do an AA/EPA test via mail. Do you recommend this company and if not where should I look? Thanks for your time.
Greg
A: Dear Greg,
All of the above tests are useful, but none will give a detailed insight into the extent of silent inflammation that you might have. CRP is a relatively crude marker of silent inflammation, but the AA/EPA ratio is the test you are really seeking. Your Future Health does the AA/EPA ratio test.
