Primary biliary cirrhosis

Last Updated Mar 2008

Q: I was diagnosed PBC two years ago. I do not have any symptoms yet. I take Actigal 300 mg x 3. I have been taking one teaspoon of your brand liquid fish oil for seven to eight months. Do you have any suggestions for me?

A: Primary biliary cirrhosis is an inflammation-driven attack on the small bile ducts that can eventually lead to cirrhosis of the liver. It appears to be an auto-immune disease, which indicates that high-dose fish oil should be of significant benefit. I would suggest 1 tablespoon or 12 capsules per day. Following the Zone Diet makes fish oil work more efficiently.
