Q: I have atypical ankylosing spondylitis with low back pain and pain and swelling of joints in fingers. I have been on the "Zone" regimen on and off for many years and recently started to take EicoRx, four capsules per day. After three weeks there is no improvement in joint pain although I am mostly on the Zone Diet. Should I be increasing the dosage temporarily and is this the right product to be taking right now.
A:I would consider starting with 7.5 grams of EPA and DHA per day using OmegaRx for about 30 days. This would be 12 capsules or 1 tablespoon of the liquid. You will need these baseline levels to reduce the pain. Then replace one capsule with EicoRx every month. Of course, the more closely you follow the Zone Diet, the less arachidonic acid you will make, and that will also significantly reduce the amount of EPA and DHA that you require.
