Frozen shoulder

Last Updated Apr 2008

Q: I was diagnosed with frozen shoulder about eight months ago.  I do not have increased thyroid, and all my other blood work is normal.  I did not have an accident or surgery, so no one has any idea why I have this.  I am on my second orthopedic doctor and again in physical therapy two times a week. I have had two cortisone injections, which have significantly decreased the pain and inflammation.  I am wondering if fish oil supplements will help speed up the process and if so, how much?  I am a female, 55 years old, and weigh 140 pounds.

A: You condition is described in his "The OmegaRx Zone," chapter 14, "Why it Hurts." Maintain insulin control by following the Zone. Begin supplementing with 5 grams of OmegaRx daily. That would be four capsules or 1 teaspoon of liquid. If there is no improvement within two weeks, increase to eight capsules or 2 teaspoons. If there’s still no relief, you can supplement with up to 10 grams per day. That would be 12 capsules or 1 tablespoon. Once the pain subsides, decrease your dosage in small increments until your pain reappears.
Always work with your physician.
