Bruising with fish oil

Last Updated May 2008

Q: What is the mechanism that causes some people to bruise more easily when taking fish oil?  Because this seems to be dose related, how do you get around this problem so that you can use the higher recommended doses?

A: I would recommend adding polyphenols with higher doses of fish oil not only to protect the EPA and DHA from oxidation but also to strengthen the capillary beds to prevent any leakage of red blood cells that causes the bruise as the iron in the red blood cells becomes oxidized.
