Q: My 23-year-old daughter has been suffering from severe pain in her leg ligaments for nearly four years. At times it is so bad she can barely walk. Finally, a few months ago she was diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroidis and a near-severe deficiency in vitamin D, among other things. She has started a treatment based on a protocol of T3 and T4 and vitamin D, and she is doing much better on a number of fronts, but her ligament pains seem to have remained the same or even have gotten slightly worse as she is more active in the summer months. Should she start taking large amounts of omega-3 in her condition, and how could that interfere with her present medication, if at all. If you believe she should try such a treatment, which one of your products would you recommend?
A: It appears the pain is unrelated to the Hashimoto’s thyroidis. I would recommend at least 7.5 grams of EPA and DHA per day for 30-60 days. If the pain decreases, then reduce the dose until the pain returns.
