Leptin study

Last Updated Aug 2008

Q: Can you comment on the latest study regarding leptin?  The study says that once you lose 10 percent of your body weight, your body starts fighting the weight loss by reducing leptin levels and almost guarantees you will regain the weight (and then some).  Does the Zone Diet do anything to increase leptin levels when losing weight?

A: The Zone Diet is an anti-inflammatory diet that will reduce leptin resistance. Leptin levels will fall as you lose body fat, but you can enhance the effectiveness of the remaining lower levels of leptin by reducing silent inflammation, which is underlying cause of leptin resistance.
