High doses of fish oils and pregnancy

Last Updated Aug 2008

Q: I have been reading "The Anti-Inflammation Zone" and am interested in taking the amount of fish oil you recommend for chronic pain but am in the midst of fertility treatments.  What amount of fish oil is safe to take during pregnancy?
A: I would suggest about 7.5 grams of EPA and DHA per day until you become pregnant to reduce the pain. After you are pregnant, I would reduce the levels to 2.5 grams of EPA and DHA per day.
