Hyaluronic acid absorption

Last Updated Sep 2008

Dear Dr Sears,

You previously mentioned hyaluronic acid was best administered via injections as the molecular weight is too large for absorption. BioCell Technology, LLC, claims to have developed Bio Cell Collagen II that has significant peak absorption and steady state bioavailability by reducing the molecular weight of HA.  Do you believe that this technology is effective? And if so, do you believe it would be an OK adjunct to the Zone, fish oil and polyphenols for joint repair?

Regards, Scott

Dear Scott,

Without seeing the data, I’m skeptical about the delivery method. However, used as an adjunct the Zone Diet, high-dose fish oil and polyphenols, it couldn’t hurt.
