Q: I get headaches from omega-3 oils. It doesn't matter what source (natural or supplemental) or what kind, be it EPA/DHA or ALA. Dosage also doesn't make any difference. I have been experiencing this for eight years now, as I am against taking neurotoxins like SSRIs. For years I've been searching for others who get this side effect, and finally just today I came across postings from several people who also get headaches from fish oil. So now I know I'm not going crazy! My dietary goal is to actually AVOID omega-3s in all forms. So this is my question, is it possible to get this resolved? No drugs!
A:Your headaches are probably due to increased vasodilatation of the cerebral arteries thus increasing blood flow. This is the best way to prevent a stroke. I would suggest starting with one capsule of fish oil every other day and to gradually build up your levels.
