Mitochrondrial myopathy

Last Updated Oct 2008

Q: I have mitochrondrial myopathy.  My stamina and ability to breathe under stress is low.  Is this diet effective if you are not able to exercise along with it?

A: Mitochrondrial myopathy results in the lack of production of adequate levels of ATP. The Zone Diet should be effective as it is a balanced diet rich in polyphenols (the chemicals that give fruits and vegetables their color), which are key to improving the production of more mitochrondria. I also would recommend taking about 100 mg. of Co-Q10 per day to help increase ATP production.
