OmegaRx eases tinnitus

Last Updated Feb 2009

For five years now I have had a high-pitched pulsating noise in both my ears.  The noise is coordinated with my heartbeat and is present 24/7.  During the day it is mostly masked by background noises, but at night when I'm trying to sleep, it is very annoying.

I have been Zoning for several years now and enjoy excellent health based on my physical performance and blood testing data.  I am 65 years old and take no medications except as you'll see below.

Recently, I re-read “The OmegaRx Zone” and paid particular attention to the chapter on neurological issues.  At the time, I was on the recommended maintenance dose of 2.5 grams of fish oil per day. Based on what I read, however, I thought I would try boosting this dose to 7.5 grams per day to see if it would have any effect on my tinnitus.

To turn down the noise and help me sleep, I have been taking 10 mg of Valium every night just before bed.  Because of the long half-life of this drug, I often feel groggy upon awakening, and slow of mind during the day.  I don't like taking this drug, but the alternative is a poor night's sleep.

After two months on the higher dose of fish oil, I am now able to get by on 5 mg of Valium, and I sleep fine.

I don't know if this improvement will continue to the point where I can quit the Valium completely.  I suspect that getting there will take some time and experimentation, but I'm hopeful.  I surely will let you know if I can "kick" the habit completely.

Just a final clarification:  My tinnitus is mild compared to what many suffer.  It is important that if you're one of these sufferers, you seek and follow the advice of your ENT - tinnitus can be a serious - even a life-threatening condition.  There is always hope, though, and there are several options if your case is severe.

I know my story is just anecdotal, but it's real to me, and I hope that my progress will encourage others with this condition.  As far as I can see, there is no downside to giving it a try.
