Parkinson’s

Last Updated Apr 2009

Q: My mom has Parkinson’s disease. Is there any way the Zone Diet can help reduce the symptoms?  Are there supplements that could help? She is always tired because of the arm movements. She can't sleep soundly, therefore she has no energy.  She is being followed by a physician, but she is taking more and more medication.

A: High-dose fish oil can reduce the neuro-inflammation that characterizes Parkinson’s as well as increase dopamine levels. Patients whom I have worked with have used it successfully at levels of about 10 grams of EPA and DHA per day.
