Dear Dr. Sears, really enjoyed your latest book!
A: Have recently begun supplementing with your fish oil and was eager to increase dosage to 10 G/day. However, stumbled upon some online sites where people said they took larger doses of fish oil and had subsequent hair loss. Do any studies indicate a correlation between high-dose fish oil and hair loss? Or have you heard of any reports of this? Also, I have glaucoma--have you heard of any improvement with this with higher-dose fish oil? If so, how much?
Thank you, Kate
Dear Kate,
A: I have not seen this problem with a highly refined EPA and DHA concentrate like OmegaRx, especially when combined with SeaHealth Plus. You may want to start at 5 grams of EPA and DHA per day; then go to 7.5 grams after a week and then go to 10 grams. Keep in mind that the best amount of fish oil is that which is the least amount to treat your symptoms. Glaucoma is essentially high blood pressure in the eye. The higher levels of EPA and DHA should reduce it.
