Head pain

Last Updated Jun 2009

Q: In 1994 our son, George, then 16, began to have facial head pain. Four years later he still had head pain with no relief. He was given a psychotic medication for head pain. This seemed to relieve the head pain. He went on a religious mission before college. His head pain returned. Later he was given nine different psychotropic meds of 2500 mg. We later learned from a P450 blood test analysis that his alleles are shorter and that interpretation of meds could affect his medication. He has now experienced head pain for 16 years. He has had 21 printouts of many kinds of meds. He is only 31, and his weight and statistics are becoming more perilous. We are not getting much help in terms of guarding his health and need help to get George on his feet again. He is constantly on a medical diagnosis roller coaster and no one seems to really see the need. We as parents feel out on a limb. Can you help us in some way? Thank you. We never knew what really happened and we feel he probably did not have an imbalance at the outset. However, his health is paramount at this time. He is our only son.

A:I would recommend at least 7.5 grams of EPA and DHA per day to reduce any potential neuro-inflammation in the brain. In addition, following the Zone Diet strictly will enhance the anti-inflammatory actions of the fish oil.
