Last Updated Aug 2009

Q: Is vegetable oil beneficial for CVD? Many published reports show that serum linoleic acid is inversely related to risk of CVD. Does this mean we should consume vegetable oil?

A: There are many other published articles that have shown just the opposite conclusion. The most important was the Lyon Diet Heart Study that indicated replacing linoleic acid resulted in a 70 percent reduction of fatal and non-fatal heart attacks over a 3½ year period.
