Dr. Sears,
Q: What is your opinion (or research) concerning DAG oil? I have not yet received the Drs. Eades' newest book but understand that this oil is a major component of their six-week plan. I'm concerned given what you wrote about veggie oils in “Toxic Fat.” I would think coconut oil would have been a better choice. And speaking of that ... your take on that oil would be appreciated too. Thank you.
A: DAG oil contains 2/3 the fat content as a regular vegetable oil, but it is still rich in omega-6 fatty acids that will ultimately increase inflammation. Coconut oil is rich in short-chain saturated fatty acids that can bind to toll-like receptor 4 (TLR-4) to induce inflammation. The best fat choices remain oils rich in non-inflammatory monounsaturated fats. That means olive oil, slivered almonds or guacamole.
