Cancer and post-operation therapy

Last Updated Jan 2008

Q: Dear Dr. Sears,

My mother (she is 75 years old) has ovarian cancer. She will be operated within the current month and a chemotherapy program has been already scheduled. I would like to understand if a combination of the Zone Diet and omega-3 fatty acids is a good solution to help my mother after the operation and the dose to be used.

Thank you very much for your help and best regards, Mario P.

A: Dear Mario,

I would strongly recommend the combination of the Zone Diet and high-dose fish oil (at least 10 grams of EPA and DHA per day) to help your mother recover from the surgery and to decrease the toxicity of any chemotherapy program that she might undertake.
