Exercise and fish oil

Last Updated Sep 2007

Q: Dr. Sears,

I recently started cycling to lose weight and get back into shape after about a one- year layoff. I use to run. My question is: I have been taking four capsules of your fish oil per day for several years to help rebound from the exercise and maintain energy levels. Would increasing my fish oil reduce soreness (legs) and maintain a high energy, and as long as I don't over train?

Thanks, Paul

A: Dear Paul,

Following the Zone while increasing monounsaturated fats (olive oil, avocado) will help maintain your energy levels. Adding more fat into your diet builds the levels of intramuscular fat, providing a much greater energy source than stored carbohydrate. Controlling insulin levels allows you to access this untapped energy source. To reduce soreness (caused by inflammation), increasing your omega-3 supplementation will help. You may find our new formulation EicoRx to be your best choice to decrease inflammation, improve recovery times and increase aerobic capacity. Start with four EicoRx capsules; then increase based on your Eicosanoid Status Report at: http://drsears.com/eicosanoidstatusreport.page
