ADHD

Last Updated Nov 2007

Q: My son is 6 years old and has ADHD and dyslexia. He has a small heart problem where he is not able to take meds. I have him on vitamins, and I was told to put him on fish oil. Also he is impulsive, and I need help on how I can help him with that. The vitamins seem to help a little for focusing, but that's about all. School has now put him in ISS for three days, and I think that is too much for him. I don't want him to think he is a bad child because of things he is doing. I think he already believes he is a bad child and thinks people think that, too. Please help me if you can.

Thanks, Leigh

Dear Leigh,

A: My recent article in the Nutrition Journal demonstrated that taking 15 grams of EPA and DHA per day brings a dramatic reduction in the behavior problems caused by ADHD. There is no reason to believe the same benefits will not be observed in your child.
