Silent inflammation and the common cold

Last Updated Apr 2008

Q: Whenever I get a cold, I cough quite a bit, but I notice that even weeks after the cold has passed, I'm still coughing just as much as before. Then it eventually goes away until I get another cold. Could this be related to silent inflammation and my body not being able to turn off the inflammation response on my throat, even after the virus is gone?

A: Very likely. You need to up regulate more of the anti-inflammatory eicosanoids. The easiest way is taking one-half baby aspirin per day with five grams of EPA and DHA in order to make more resolvins, which are powerful anti-inflammatory eicosanoids.
