Fish oil

Last Updated Nov 2008

Q: I read an article in First about Toxic Fat Syndrome.  I would like to try the fish oil, but I can't quite figure out what the high dosage would be.  I have Nature's Bounty Omega-3 Fish Oil 1000mg.  The supplement facts show Fish Oil 1000mg, then lists EPA and DHA with no amounts next to them.  Under that it has total omega-3 fatty acids 300mg.  Would please tell me what I need to take?  I'm currently about 50 pounds overweight, and I'm cutting back on what I eat.  I've lost 10 so far, but the stomach area still seems to be my trouble spot.
A:You will need to take about 5 grams of EPA and DHA per day. Unfortunately that means about 17 capsules of that particular brand. Even worse is the fact that it is not very purified. However, unless you are following an anti-inflammatory diet, like the Zone Diet, your high levels of insulin will continue to make it difficult to lose the excess fat.
